Era of High-speed Railways in India
Introduction –
Today in the era of High-speed railways. We see now a days in news, our prime minister Modi ji is inaugurating many High-speed rails like Vande Bharat trains, Gatimaan express, Tejas express etc. High speed rails on different routes connecting different important cities.
Updates –
In the sequence of High-speed railways our government is going for the development of bullet trains with the help of Japan which will be connecting the two cities Mumbai to Ahmedabad. This will make travelling easy for thousands of people.
Question on the system –
The Question comes in our mind, is it the need to establish such high-speed Railways? when there is a lack of infrastructure in already existing trains.
Trains are generally late on their routes. The trains are running more than their capacitance.
Comment 0n High Speed Railways in India –
With the establishment of the first train route between Bombay to Thane in 1853. Earlier there were steam engines which operated trains generally below 100 km/hr.
In the late 1920s electric locomotives, the speed of 100 km/hr. were achieved. Later with diesel locomotives speed increased to 120 km/hr. to 130 km/hr. With the development of further locomotives Vande Bharat an Electric Multiple Unit, among the fastest operational train sets reaching 183 km/hr.
High Speed Railways play a crucial role in boosting the economy of a country. Countries like China, Japan, and Germany has developed a strong network of High speed Rails.
Benefits of High-Speed Rails –
- High speed Railways are time saving and punctual mode of transportation, which can add major economic contribution to the economy.
- It provides time efficient connectivity to between the cities. which can decentralize the population burden on the cities.
- Other secondary benefits, such as it helps to boosts tourism. Easy, Time efficient, and affordable connectivity to tourist destinations can boost tourism.
Example: Connectivity of major cities to tourist destinations such as Ayodhya, Bodh Gaya, Kushinagar, Tirupati, Mount Abu, Jodhpur, Jaipur etc.
Challenges of High-speed Railways –
- Lack of infrastructure – The quality of train tracks is not with the mark to run high Speed Rails in India. Projects such as Bullet train need a dedicated infrastructure:
- Need of funding – There is need of heavy funding for infrastructure, Technology, and development etc.
- Technology – We are generally dependent on import of technology for High-speed Railways such as Bullet train. We need to develop our own technology. More investment on Research and innovation in this sector needs to be done.
- Dedicated corridors for High-speed Railways – Have huge environmental concerns, Forest needs to be cut. It also affects the habitats of birds and different animals.
Conclusion –
“21st Century is India’s Century” To fulfill this dream we need to invest more on new era infrastructure. With New era infrastructure we can not only boost our economy, but it will also bring a shift in our work culture, innovations, tourism, and other social and cultural dimensions.
But while adopting high speed Rails, we should not ignore the existing trains.
We should also focus on developing the existing infrastructure and adopting the new changes.
